CISSP is a contraction of Certified Information System Security Professional, which is a globally recognized certification that would be offered by the ISC2 which again is the contraction of International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium. CISSP certification would be validating that the candidate has ability and expertise in all the fields under the information security. CISSP certified professionals are called upon to define the design, controls, architecture, and management of highly secure business environments.

What is CISSP Eligibility?

Candidates who are looking forward to pursuing the CISSP Certification exams are required to have five years of cumulative full-time work experience in the two or more domains of the CBK of ISC2 CISSP. ISC2 would be awarding a one-year professional experience waiver if the candidate has in their possession a four-year college degree in the same field, its regional equivalent otherwise educational eligibility as recognized under the list mentioned by ISC2.

Without experience also, the candidate may take the exam, but they won’t immediately be rewarded the tag of CISSP. Instead, they will be awarded an Associate of ISC2 certification, and once they earn the required work experience, in the following six years, they could then earn the credential of CISSP.

Here's what you are going to need to become a CISSP through (ISC)2:

1.    Obtaining Five Years of Security Work Experience

You must be able to show evidence of five paid full-time years of work experience in two or more than two of the eight CISSP CBK (Common Body of Knowledge) domains, which are mentioned below:

•    Asset Security,

•    Communications and Network Security,

•    Identity and Access Management,

•    Security and Risk Management,

•    Security Assessment and Testing,

•    Security Engineering,

•    Security Operations,

•    Software Development Security.

On-the-job experience is considered to be crucial for both the exam as well as the certification process.

2.    Preparing For and Clearing the CISSP Exam

Completing the CISSP exam with a minimum score of 700 out of 1,000 wouldn’t be the just preparation needed by a candidate. The exam is extensively long of six hours and includes a mixture of multiple-choice as well as advanced innovative questions.

The cost of which is about $699. The (ISC)2 CISSP webpage also offers the exam outline which could be downloaded through their webpage and they also offer a link to a Study App, which is available through the App Store as well as Google Play for about $10. You could even obtain the official textbook and test your knowledge with CISSP Flash Cards.

If you need more than self-study materials, (ISC)2 and a lot of third parties, like the SPOTO offer CISSP in-class and online training. Training costs could be varying widely, but the online self-paced course could costs you around $2,750 through (ISC)2. In-class training would cost appreciably more. The endorsement form must be then signed by another (ISC)2 certified professional who would be able to give verification about your professional work experience. You should submit the completed form within nine months of clearing the exam to become fully certified because just clearing the exam doesn't go to automatically grant you the CISSP status.

Even after you have been fully certified, you would have to maintain your credential by recertifying it every three years. CISSPs Holders are required to pay an $85 maintenance fee every year during the three-year cycle which would be $255 in total. They must also submit 40 CPE (continuing professional education) credits each year, which would be a total of 120 CPEs. So, it is not at all an easy task, to obtain this certification, but if you wish to make it easy, you could do it by joining the SPOTO, which grants you the extensive training program to gain this certification in a single attempt and that too with passing guarantee.
