The Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert which is also known as the CCIE is considered to be one of the most prestigious networking certifications in the industry. CCIEs are regarded as the master of networking because of their expert network engineering skills and are considered as highly sought out individuals in the job market. According to Cisco, CCIE certification holders represent about less than 3% of all certified Cisco professionals and about less than 1% of the networking professionals across the globe. CCIEs are deployed into the assignments which are considered as the most technically challenging network and paid top dollar for the work they do.

CCIE R&S Written Exam Study Guide:

As and when you start your journey, you are going to need tools for preparing for the CCIE R&S written exam. It took some candidates about six months and some, even more, to prepare for it. You would have to sit for the exam at a local Pearson VUE testing center and clear it. You could register for your CCIE R&S written exam at Pearson Vue and there are no formal pre-requisites required for the registration. Below, we will discuss some guides, regarding a study for the CCIE R&S Certification, but apart from these study guides, it is recommended that you also enroll yourself in various training modules, such which are offered by the SPOTO.

Here are some study guides, which you could use for studying for the CCIE R&S Written Exam:

•    CCIE R&S Certification Guide, 4th Edition:

This Cisco Press title which is written by Rus Healy, Wendell Odom, and Denise Donohue is going to cover the CCIE Routing and Switching 4.0 blueprint. This book was considered as the mainstay of the preparation for the written exam and covered almost everything that a candidate might need to clear their CCIE written exam.

But keep in mind that this book is written very concisely despite its size. If you are new to a certain technology, you might have to use other resources first to build your knowledge and later use this book as the last stage prep tool. Also, this book is considered to be useful only for the CCIE R&S written exam and not for the lab. While reading this book you may found that there were knowledge gaps which you need to fill by studying other books and documents.

•    Routing TCP/IP Volume I, 2nd Edition:

This book which is written by Jeff Doyle could be found on the bookshelf of any serious networking professional. It primarily covers Interior Gateway Protocols (IGPs) which includes Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Routing Information Protocol (RIP), and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) and it provides a solid foundation for not only for CCIE R&S the written exam but also for the CCIE R&S lab exam. You should read this book cover to cover initially and used it for reference later on from time to time.

•    Routing TCP/IP Volume II.

This book is the second volume of the series written by Jeff Doyle and primarily it would be covering the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Network Address Translation (NAT), IPv6, and Multicast. This book is a bit dated but it still serves as a good reference on the various topics. You should read this whole book as well but do refer to read an updated version for revising certain topics.

Many candidates feel, that they are going to need more than just a written material for that preparation and such involve themselves in the various training module. But to select the appropriate one, like SPOTO, is also necessary, or you might just waste your time and money.
