How do you handle situations where the team encounters unforeseen challenges that threaten the sprint goal?
Reference answer
When unforeseen challenges arise that threaten the sprint goal, I approach the situation with a focus on collaboration and problem-solving. First, I gather input from team members to understand the nature and severity of the challenges. I then facilitate a discussion to explore potential solutions, considering both short-term mitigation and long-term resolution strategies. If the challenges require adjustments to the sprint goal, I work with the team and stakeholders to make informed decisions and communicate changes transparently. By fostering a culture of adaptability and providing support during challenging times, we ensure the team can navigate unforeseen obstacles while maintaining a commitment to delivering value.
6
How would you help a team choose between Scrum and Kanban?
Reference answer
I'd start by understanding their work characteristics and pain points. If they have clearly defined features with predictable scope and regular release cycles, Scrum's sprint structure might provide helpful rhythm. If they have more interrupt-driven work with varying priorities and sizes, Kanban's flow-based approach might be better. I worked with a support team that tried Scrum but struggled because their work was mostly reactive tickets with unpredictable timing. We switched to Kanban with WIP limits and explicit policies for different work types. Their response time improved and stress levels decreased significantly. The key is matching the framework to how work actually flows, not forcing work to fit a framework.
7
How does Kanban support continuous improvement?
Reference answer
Kanban encourages regular retrospectives to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement, fostering a culture of continuous learning and adaptation.
8

9
How do you make the stakeholders attend the daily scrum?
Reference answer
One of the Agile Principles states “Business people and developers must work together daily throughout the project”. The stakeholders can join the daily scrum meeting but they can be mute spectators till the time scrum is not complete. The Scrum Master should encourage the stakeholders to join the meeting by making them understand that it will be worth their time. The goal of the Daily Scrum is to know whether or not they will reach the Sprint Goal. If the stakeholders are joining the daily scrum, then they will get to know the updated picture of product development and can accordingly adjust their expectations. They get to know about the real issues that the team is facing, which helps both parties. This event gives the opportunity to the development team to directly ask questions with the stakeholders. It not only promotes a platform for discussion but also provides early detection of risk for the stakeholders. But the Scrum Master should make sure that the inclusion of the stakeholders in the daily scrum is not converting the meeting into a status update. Although stakeholder presence is not mandatory, it doesn't matter if they are there as a listener because it can facilitate the resolution of any impediments.
10
How Does a Cumulative Flow Diagram Aid in Pinpointing Bottlenecks?
Reference answer
The Interviewer aims to know your understanding of how specific analytical tools are used in Kanban to improve process flow. Sample Answer: A Cumulative Flow Diagram (CFD) provides a graphical representation of the different stages of tasks in a project over time, helping to identify where work is piling up or stalling. By analysing the diagram, teams can quickly pinpoint process bottlenecks and take corrective actions to ensure smoother workflow.
11
How do you assess and measure player and team performance?
Reference answer
Assessment is a crucial part of the coaching process. For individual performance, I use a combination of measurable and qualitative metrics. This includes monitoring improvements in specific skills, reviewing performance in games and practice sessions, and observing their work ethic and attitude. I'll often have one-on-one feedback sessions with the player to discuss progress and set new goals. For team performance, I track progress towards clearly defined team objectives. This would include match outcomes but also teamwork dynamics, strategic execution during games, and how the team copes with setbacks or handles pressure situations. In both evaluations, it's not just about the numbers or pure performance, but also about the drive, determination, sportsmanship, and personal growth of the athletes themselves. The evaluation process should always be constructive with the goal of guiding the players towards continuous improvement.
12
In your Kanban project, team members are experiencing high levels of stress and burnout due to a constant demand for urgent work items. This has resulted in a decrease in the team's overall well-being and work quality. As a Kanban Project Manager, how can you address the issue of stress and burnout and promote a healthier work environment for the team?
Reference answer
Hold individual meetings with team members to discuss their stress levels, identify sources of stress, and collaboratively find solutions to reduce workload and stress.
13
Can you give an example of how you facilitated team improvement in a previous role?
Reference answer
Agile coaches can share specific instances where they implemented strategies like retrospectives to identify areas for improvement. They might also describe how they used workshops or training to enhance team skills and collaboration.
14
How do you facilitate remote Agile ceremonies, such as sprint planning or retrospectives?
Reference answer
Facilitating remote Agile ceremonies can be challenging, but with the right approach and tools, it can be just as effective as in-person events. In my experience, here's how I like to approach remote sprint planning and retrospectives: For sprint planning: 1. Prior to the meeting, ensure that the product backlog is well-groomed and that user stories are clearly defined and prioritized. 2. Use a video conferencing tool, such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams, to conduct the meeting, allowing all participants to see and hear each other. 3. Utilize a digital whiteboard or project management tool, like Miro or Jira, to facilitate the discussion and capture the sprint goals, user stories, and tasks. 4. Encourage active participation from all team members by asking open-ended questions and seeking their input on priorities and estimates. For retrospectives: 1. Use a video conferencing tool to conduct the meeting, ensuring that all participants can see and hear each other. 2. Create a shared digital space, such as a Miro board or a Google Jamboard, where team members can anonymously add their thoughts and feedback on what went well, what didn't, and potential improvements. 3. Facilitate a group discussion around the feedback, encouraging team members to share their perspectives and insights. 4. Collaboratively identify and prioritize action items to address in the next sprint, ensuring that everyone is aligned and committed to making improvements. By leveraging technology and fostering an open and collaborative environment, remote Agile ceremonies can be just as effective as their in-person counterparts.
15

Reference answer

What is the role of an agile coach in retrospectives?
Reference answer
Development resources were used to attend this important retrospective organized by an agile coach. These developers are essential to completing these sprints on time. Sometimes team members feel this retrospective is to blame other developers. An agile coach will be managing them to achieve the goal on time by mainlining a delicate balance between their own motivation and teamwork to complete the project.
17
How do you integrate feedback loops into a Kanban process?
Reference answer
To integrate feedback loops into a Kanban process, I conduct regular retrospectives to gather team feedback and identify areas for improvement. I also implement incremental changes based on this feedback and monitor their impact on workflow efficiency.
