What is CCIE?

The Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert or the CCIE Certification was established to provide the assistance on the industry in distinguishing the top stratum of internetworking experts’ worldwide and to assess the Expert-level infrastructure networks which are going to design skills worldwide. These certifications are accepted worldwide and are considered to be the most prestigious networking certifications in the industry.

The CCIE, as well as the CCDE community, has established a reputation of leading the networking industry in deep technical networking knowledge and are organized into the most technically challenging network assignments. The Expert-level certification program continually revises and updates its testing methodologies and tools in order to ensure the unparalleled program value, relevance, and quality. First, you need to pass a rigorous written exam and then a performance-based lab exam; these Expert-level certification programs would set the standard for internetworking expertise.

Prerequisites:

There are no formal pre-requirements for the CCIE Lab certification. Though other professional certifications or training courses are not required, candidates must first pass a written qualification exam and later you need to pass the corresponding hands-on lab exam. You are expected to have an in-depth understanding of the topics which are present in the exam blueprints and you are strongly encouraged to have about three to five years of job experience before you attempt the CCIE Lab certification.

Procedure to gain CCIE Certification:

CCIE Written Exam:

In order to gain the CCIE Routing and Switching Certification, first you must have to pass the two hours written qualification exam, which are going to cover the networking concepts and some equipment commands before you are eligible in order to schedule the lab exam.

CCIE Lab Exam:

After finishing the CCIE Written Exam, then comes the eight-hour lab exam which is going to tests your ability to configure the actual equipment and troubleshoot the network in a timed based test situation.

CCIE Lab Format:

There are going to be three modules in the CCIE Exam, first would be the Troubleshooting module which is considered of about 2 hours. The candidates could extend the Troubleshooting module if desire, by borrowing up to 30 min from that of the Configuration module. Note that the total Configuration module time will be reduced by the extra time which a candidate spends in the Troubleshooting module. Suppose if the candidates finish the Troubleshooting module early, then the unused Troubleshooting module’s time will again be added to the Configuration module’s time, ensuring a total lab exam time of about 8 hours. The time of the Diagnostic module is fixed in duration and that is 30 minutes.

CCIE Troubleshooting:

The CCIE Lab exam is going to feature a 2-hour troubleshooting section. The Candidates will be presented with a series of trouble tickets for the preconfigured networks and they would also be needed to diagnose and resolve the network fault or faults.  As with the configuration section, the network must be started and running for a candidate in order to receive the credit.  The Candidates who clear the troubleshooting section early are eligible to proceed on to next section which is the diagnostic section, but remember that they won’t be allowed to go back to troubleshooting section, once they choose the diagnostic section

So here you have all the details that you would be requiring to clear the CCIE Lab Exam, but let me tell you are going to need the theoretical knowledge, but in lab examination, practical knowledge is more valuable. You should find a source where you could have hands-on training if you cannot afford to build your own lab. I would recommend you to gain the professional hands-on training through the SPOTO CCIE Club. By their expert guidance, you could gain this certification in the first attempt.
