Can I go CCIE RS exam directly?

Before I answer your question, let’s me first share some information regarding the CCIE RS Certification. To begin with, its full form is Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert Routing and Switching. Cisco systems had introduced the CCIE certification in 1993 to help the industry to identify the world's top Internet experts. Another thing that you should know that clearing the CCIE R&S certification exam will certify that you are having the skills that are required of expert-level network engineers to plan, operate and troubleshoot complex, converged with the infrastructure of the network.

Prerequisites

Formally there are no prerequisites to appear for the CCIE certification exam. What I mean to say is that no other professional certifications or training courses are required to give the CCIE R&S Exam. As a matter of fact, you just need to pass a written qualification exam and later on, you need to clear the corresponding hands-on lab exam.

As to have an upper hand on the exam, it would be good if you have an in-depth understanding of the topics in the blueprints of the exam and it is strongly recommended that you have about three to five years of experience of the job, before attempting the Certification.

Exam Details:

Step 1: CCIE R&S Written Exam:

The first step, which you need to put the focus on, is the two-hour, written qualification exam. This exam covers the concepts of networking and some equipment commands before it makes you eligible to schedule the lab exam.

Step 2: CCIE R&S Lab Exam:

The First step would probably be a piece of cake, but this one is going to take some time for you to intervene success. CCIE R&S Lab Exam consists of long and tiring eight-hour. CCIE R&S Lab Exam is going to tests your abilities to configure the actual equipment and troubleshoot the network in a timed test situation.

Now let’s discuss about the real question here, whether to go directly for the CCIE Exam, or they should first go on from CCNA and CCNP certification. So to answer it, yeah definitely the skipping of CCNA and CCNP is going to save a lot of money and time. But skipping the learning part of CCNA and CCNP wouldn’t be a good idea. You need to be very strong and thorough with your fundamentals. You need to be very confident about each and every concept. Yes, you are not required to remember the commands as there's no one, who could remember all those commands. So now when you have decided to skip the CCIE R&S Exam, but you should and must be able to understand the logic behind each and every method. You need to first identify the problem and then try to come up with your own solutions. Self-Analysis is the best way through which one can find a solution is a better perspective way. Else there would be no other use of CCIE certification.

CCIE is not just a certification exam. If you become a CCIE, you would be looked upon as an expert. Companies are expecting that you come up with good practical solutions for the real scenarios. CCIE is a journey which has two parts. The first part like we have discussed is the written part and next is an intensive hands-on lab examination, clearing which will obtain me, a CCIE R&S Certification.

Another tiny detail that I miss is that I am also a CCIE certified (Routing and Switching). And as a matter of fact, I too have skipped both the CCNA and CCNP exams, but only exams, not learning.

So, I would like to say Good Luck to all the candidates. Do fall in love with networking and you are going to enjoy every bit of your journey.
