What is Cisco?

Cisco Systems is considered to be an American Multinational largest networking company in the world. It is the biggest manufacturer of Networking hardware and developing technology. It would be manufactured, develops and sells communication technology, Networking hardware as well as other high-end technology. Before we would be discussing the difference between the two, if you are willing to pursue any of the certifications, do check out the courses which are being offered at the SPOTO Club.

Difference between CCNA R&S and CCNA Security

Cisco Routing and Switching

Cisco Routing and Switching wouldn’t only be covering the foundation on Networking but also deals with the data transition in the network. This domain would be all about designing the network and the flow of data. It would be creating the base of all the other domain certifications.

CCNA R&S Certification is considered to be Cisco’s Associate Level Certification for Routing and Switching domain. It would be laying the foundation of other certifications and is considered to be a prerequisite of many. In this certification, you would be learning about the network transition as well as designing the network.

Cisco Security

Cisco Security would be the domain of Cisco networking deals with the security of the network. In this domain, the networking aspirants are required having the knowledge as well as skills of finding complex Cisco solutions for securing the network against malicious threats, vulnerabilities, and risks.

CCNA (Cisco Certified Newark Associate) Security is considered to be the first level of Cisco Security Certification. In this certification, the candidate learns to secure the Network and maintain interiority and confidentiality of data. This certification would be validating the candidate for installing, configuring and monitoring the network devices as well as securing the network from any threats.

CCNA R&S vs CCNA Security

CCNA R&S is considered to be an associate level of Cisco Certification in Routing & Switching track/technologies, whereas CCNA Security is believed to be an associate-level of Certification offered by Cisco Systems in Network Security track/technologies.

CCNA R&S would be covering the basics of Routing & Switching, starting from OSI Model, Router Basics, IP Addressing, and also covers Basics of Routing protocols such as EIGRP, RIP and OSPF, including Switching technologies such as VTP, STP, VLAN, and lot more.

Whereas CCNA Security would be just covering the basics of Network Security technologies which would include, Type of Cyber Attacks, IOS Firewalls, Basics of VPN technologies, etc. To do CCNA Security, you are required to have a valid CCNA R&S Certification or knowledge.

And if you aim to get CCNA Security Certification, I would suggest you to either go for CCNA R&S + CCNP R&S combo or Go for CCNA R&S + CCNP R&S + CCNA Security + CCNP Security combo. Because CCNA Security doesn't cover any practical part. Aim for CCNP Security at least.

Cisco certifications would be available in 8 different tracks and among all, CCNA R&S, as well as CCNA Security, are considered to be the most demanded certifications today. If it is CCNA R&S vs CCNA security, then the comparison is considered to be quite hard as both have a great demand in the IT industry.

The scope of CCNA R&S is too vast as it is the foundation level course and a prerequisite for pursuing other Cisco certification even CCNA Security too. Job roles after CCNA R&S include - Network Technician, Network Engineer, Helpdesk Engineer, Line 1 and Line 2 engineer and so on.

Now, coming to security, this certification also has a great demand; as the security of a network is one of the major concerns of the enterprises. As a fresh CCNA Security professional, your job roles would include - Network Security Engineer, Network Technician, Network Engineer, Helpdesk engineer and so on.

Both the Certifications have equal importance and if you wish to pursue any of them, you should opt for the study courses, which are being offered at the SPOTO Club.
