New Cisco Certification and Training

At Cisco Live in San Diego, Cisco announced new certification as well as training tracks, calling it the evolution of networking technology. The driving force behind this change is would be to unleash the full capabilities of the new network. New skills are required for both network engineers as well as software developers as networks are becoming more automated, intuitive and intent-based. Five core technology tracks and associated training for CCNP and CCIE certifications

As part of this update, you would also be able to start where you want – no prerequisites to start earning your associate, professional, specialist or expert-level certification. 

What certifications will be removed and what certifications will be added?

Certification technology tracks for CCNP and CCIE are being consolidated to Enterprise, Security, Service Provider, Collaboration and Data Center, which now include relevant topics from retired programs. You would be seeing the topics from retired certifications which would be reflected in new concentration exams. New DevNet certifications will include Cisco Certified DevNet Associate, Cisco Certified DevNet Specialist, and Cisco Certified DevNet Professional.

Why were certain certifications removed from the portfolio? Does that mean my certification wouldn’t consider valid anymore?

Cisco has consolidated the CCNA program into one, inclusive exam that would be covering entry-level networking skills across technologies, like basic IP fundamentals, IP connectivity, network access, and basics of automation as well as network programmability, and security fundamental skills, because the breadth of skills is needed when first entering networking. They would have to be refocused CCNP and CCIE program to align with the five prime technologies, which would be including Enterprise, Service Provider, Security, Collaboration and Data Center. Retired programs would have been consolidated into these technology tracks.

What would have happened to my existing certification when the new program goes into effect 24th February 2023?

For CCNA, Specialist, as well as CCNP: Your current certification would still be valid and would be active until its expiration date. When the new program goes into effect on 24th February 2023, your current certification would be transitioned to a corresponding in the new program.

For CCIE: If you would be an active CCIE, your suspended year would be converted to an active year. For example, if your active CCIE would have been suspended starting from 21st April 2023, you would be sustaining active status until 21st April 2021.

I have already commenced my certification Journey what should I do next?

The answer would be simple to keep going as well as complete your certification before the 23rd of February 2023, as you would automatically be granted the new equivalent certification, where it would be applicable. 

How do I recertify as of 24th February 2023?

From 24th February 2023, certified individuals, including CCNA, Cisco Certified Specialist, CCNP and CCIE, will be able to recertify by either taking exams, earning Continuing Education credits or a mix of both. Continuing education activities which would be including things like, attending the Live training sessions of Cisco, authoring content, completing online training courses, completing instructor-led training courses and more.
