Before moving on to the CCNA Security Exam Requirements, let’s first have an overview of the CCNA Security Exam:

CCNA Security Exam Overview:

One the candidate achieve the Cisco Certified Network Associate Security, it would be validating associate-level knowledge and skills that would be required to secure Cisco networks. Achieving a CCNA Security certification, a network professional would be demonstrating that the skills that are required to develop a recognize threats, security infrastructure, and vulnerabilities to networks, and mitigation of security threats. 

The prospectus of the CCNA Security would put on the emphasizes core security technologies, the installation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of network devices in order to maintain integrity, confidentiality, and availability of data as well as devices, and competency in the technologies that the Cisco would be using in the structure of its security. CCNA Security Exam Prerequisites:

Initial Requirements:

You are required to gain a valid CCENT, CCNA Routing & Switching OR CCIE certification to work as a prerequisite. You are also required to clear the IINS (Implementing Cisco IOS Network Security) exam the exam fee of which is about $250. The exam would be consisting of 90 minutes long and it would also contain 55 to 65 questions. Training would be available but it is not considered as the official requirement.

Exam Knowledge Requirements:

210-260 IINS exam:

The knowledge of the course takers about understanding core security concepts, securing network infrastructure, VPN encryption, managing secure access, intrusion prevention, web, and email content security, firewalls, and endpoint security would be tested in this exam. This exam would also be validating the skills for installation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of a securing network so as to maintain integrity, availability, and confidentiality of data and devices.

Continuing Requirements:

CCNA Security certifications are considered to be valid for about three years. Generally, you could recertify by clearing a specified exam or earning a higher-level certification, but you should check the Cisco's website for the current details as they would change from time to time.

Recertification

CCNA Security certifications are valid for three years. To recertify, the candidates are required to clear ONE of the following before the certification expiration date:

•    Passing any contemporary Associate-level exam excluding for ICND1 exam or

•    Passing any current Professional-level 642-XXX or any Professional-level 300-XXX exam, or

•    Passing any contemporary Cisco Specialist exam with Exam code 642-XXX (not including Cisco ITI (Implementing TelePresence Installations) exams, Sales Specialist exams or Meeting Place Specialist exams, Cisco Leading Virtual Classroom Instruction exams or any online exams of the Exam Code with 650), or

•    Passing any existing CCIE Written Exam, or

•    Passing the existing CCDE Written Exam OR current CCDE Practical Exam, or

•    Passing the Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) interview AND the CCAr board appraisal to extend lesser certifications.

When the candidates are utilizing the higher level of certification for extending other certifications, the expiration date of other certifications would be extending to the expiration date of the higher certification i.e. If you would have one year left on your CCNA Security certification and you would earn a CCIE certification which has a two-year certification life then both your CCIE certification and your CCNA Security certification would be expiring about two years from the date you would have to achieve the CCIE certification.
