A new domain that would be covering Network Principles has been added. It includes foundational topics that would be covered only on the Written exam. It would also assess expert level knowledge of these essential topics. The Layer 2 Technologies domain predominately would be covering LAN switching and WAN circuit technologies. The Layer 3 Technologies domain is considered to be the principal domain of the curriculum and would be covering interior and exterior routing protocols such as RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, ISIS, and BGP as well as addressing Layer 3 multicast, and fundamental routing concepts that would be common across routing protocols. As the industry continues to migrate towards IPv6, the new exam revision would also be focusing more heavily on dual-stack Layer 3 technologies, and it would equally treat IPv4 and IPv6 in all corresponding routing topics.

There would be no longer a dedicated section provided for IPv6. All routing protocols would be covering both IPv4 as well as IPv6. The old Multicast Technologies domain from version 4.0 would now be included in both the Layer 2 and Layer 3 Technology domains. VPN Technologies is considered to be a new stand-alone domain, which would include Encryption and Tunneling sub-domains. The Tunneling sub-domains would include MPLS’s L2 and L3 VPNs as well as DMVPN and IPv6 techniques of Tunneling. The Encryption sub-domain would be including IPsec with a pre-shared key for both the Written as well as CCIE R&S Lab exam and GETVPN for the Written exam only.

So, basically, if you want to keep yourself updated, join the SPOTO and gain all the latest updates regarding exams. Below mentioned are some of the changes done in theCCIE R&S Exam

CCIE Routing and Switching v5.0 Topic Changes

The decisions regarding which topics should be added, moved or retired were taken on the basis of the feedbacks that were received from key industry Subject Matter Experts (SME). These decisions would reflect the evolution of the expectations of a candidate for performing on the job role.

Topics that were added to the CCIE R&S Written Exam:

• Describing basic differences of software architecture between IOS and IOS XE

• Identify Cisco Express Forwarding Concepts

• Explain General Network Challenges

• Explain IP, TCP and UDP Operations

• Describe Chassis Virtualization and Aggregation Technologies

• Explain PIM Snooping

• Describe WAN Rate-based Ethernet Circuits

• Describe BGP Fast Convergence Features

• ISIS (for IPv4 and IPv6)

• Describe Basic Layer 2 VPN - Wireline

• Describe Basic L2VPN - LAN Services

• Describe GET VPN

• Describe IPv6 Network Address Translation

Topics That Were Added to the CCIE R&S Written and Lab Exams:

• Use IOS Troubleshooting Tools

• Apply Troubleshooting Methodologies

• Interpret Packet Capture

• Implement and Troubleshoot Bidirectional Forwarding Detection

 • Implement EIGRP (multi-address) Named Mode

• Implementing, Troubleshoot and Optimize EIGRP and OSPF Convergence and Scalability

• Implement and Troubleshoot DMVPN (single hub)

• Implement and Troubleshoot IPsec with pre-shared key

• Implement and Troubleshoot IPv6 First Hop Security

Advanced Technology Labs

The Advanced Technology Labs are one of the first steps taken toward the preparation of CCIE lab. This section would be consisting of nearly 500 hands-on labs that would walk you out through each and every technology, and provide in-depth explanations about how their configurations would be working. Topics are presented in quite an easy-to-follow, step-by-step, goal-oriented, approach. These scenarios would feature detailed breakdowns and thorough verifications in order to help the candidates to understand completely each and every technology at an expert level.

So, if you wish to have more details regarding the Advanced Technology Labs, I would recommend you to join the training courses offered by the SPOTO.
