CCIE R&S Lab exam is an eight-hour, hands-on exam, which is going to test the ability to configure actual equipment and troubleshoot the network in a timed-based test situation. You should first make an initial attempt at the CCIE Routing and Switching lab exam within 18-months of clearing the CCIE Routing and Switching written exam. Candidates who do not clear must reattempt the lab exam within 12 months of their last attempt in order to make their written exam to remain valid. If you do not clear the lab exam within three years of clearing the written exam, you would have to retake the written exam before being allowed to attempt the lab exam again.

CCIE R&S Lab exam involves three parts, namely TroubleShooting, CFG, and DIAG. The total exam time is eight hours. You have better spend two hours on TroubleShooting, 30 minutes on DIAG and five and a half hours on CFG.

TroubleShooting (TS ) is to test your ability to exclude some trouble in networking. We will simulate the real exam environment. For example, if a service doesn’t work, and you should find what has happened. If you need to change the module, you can do it on the devices. TS includes TS1 and TS2.

DIAG is to test your ability to analyze networking. There is no equipment to practice. The test site will give you network requirements, questions, device configuration, log information, and let you analyze the cause of network failures. This module has no devices to configure. The DIAG has 8 sets about the exam, you will have an opportunity to choose a set at random.

CFG is to test your ability to set up the networking. The test room gives the requirements, topology, and you should complete the network setup as required. This module needs to be configured on the device. There are three kinds, namely H1&H1+ CFG、H2&H2+ CFG、and H3 CFG.

This part is about H2+CFG. You have been required in completing the part in 3.5-4 hours without mistakes. Its total time is one week.

The seventh content is H3 CFG & TS2. you need to find some new faults. It spends 2 weeks to complete the part in 3.5-4 hours without mistakes.

The final stage is to review what you have practiced. The advantage is to enhance your knowledge so that you can master all during the process of taking an exam. The review also includes 2 weeks. In brief, the total is some 12 weeks and you can practice every content in 3-4 hour per day.
