CCIE Routing & Switching Overview
The CCIE lab exam is an eight-hour, hands-on exam which would be requiring you to configure and troubleshoot a series of complex networks to given specifications. Knowledge of troubleshooting would be an important skill and candidates are needed to diagnose and solve some complex issues as part of the CCIE lab exam. You won’t configure end-user systems, but you would be responsible for all devices residing in the network hubs, etc. Point values and testing criteria are provided to the candidates. Prerequisites
Well, there are no formal prerequisites for the CCIE certification. Other professional certifications or training courses are not mandatory. Instead, the candidates are needed to first pass a written qualification exam and then they could go for the corresponding hands-on lab exam. You are expected to have an in-depth understanding of the topics in the mentioned in exam blueprints and are strongly encouraged to have three to five years of job experience before attempting certification.
CCIE Routing and Switching Written Exam
In order to gain this certification, you must have to pass the two-hour, written qualification exam, which would be covering networking concepts and some equipment commands before you make yourself eligible to schedule for the lab exam.
CCIE Routing and Switching Lab Exam
Next, you have to clear the eight-hour lab exam which would be testing your ability to configure actual equipment and troubleshoot the network in a timed test situation. You should make an initial attempt at the CCIE lab exam within 18-months of passing the CCIE written exam. Candidates who haven’t passed must re-attempt the lab exam within 12 months of their last scored attempt in order for their written exam to consider as valid. If you do not pass the lab exam within three years of clearing the written exam, you would have to retake the written exam before you are allowed to attempt the lab exam again.
Lab Format
The Troubleshooting module is considered to be of 2 hours. If desired, the candidates can extend the Troubleshooting module's time by borrowing up to 30 min from the Configuration module. But do note, that the total Configuration module time will be reduced by the extra time spent in the Troubleshooting module if any, up to 30 min. If candidates finish the Troubleshooting module early, the unused time of Troubleshooting module’s will be added to the Configuration module’s time, ensuring that a total lab exam time of 8 hours. The Diagnostic module is fixed in duration and it would be about 30 minutes.
Payment Terms
Firstly, you would have to make your request within 14 days following your exam date by using the Request for Reread link next to your lab record. A Reread cost would be about $1000.00 USD and a Review costs about $400.00 USD. Payment is done online through your credit card and your Reread or Review would be initiated upon your successful payment. You might not be able to cancel the appeal request once the process has been initiated. Refunds are given only when results when you change it from fail to pass.
