The industry would be expecting the system administrators would be having the knowledge of a broad range of tasks that would include maintaining, upgrading or sometimes installing servers of an organization. Several studies would be indicating that the number of jobs available in this field is expected to rise by 27% for every 10 years. After doing some certifications such would be RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer), you can settle as a systems administrator. Even at times when the IT boom would be falling, administrators are the last ones to leave the organization.

In most of the countries, there are going to be a great demand for administrators, their jobs range from desktop support and server support to network management and sometimes IT security management, where organizations would be adopting open-source software. They expect administrators should have knowledge of cybersecurity and network designing.

With a lot of e-Commerce portals like Flipkart, Snapdeal, Myntra, Jabong bubbling up in India, the demand for Linux administrators is huge. The reason behind this is most of them would be utilizing the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySql, PHP) stack where everything is believed to be open source and free of cost. IT Managers look for people who have good analytical and problem-solving skills.

Entering into this field, a fresher would be at least RHCE certified and he or she should have the knowledge of basic concepts in OS, storage and networking. Certifications in the cloud, as well as storage, would be considered as an added advantage.

Cisco Certifications

As we would know, Cisco owns a large part of the market share in manufacturing networking equipment. They work on everything related to networking like firewalls, switches, and routers.

Cisco has recently made certain significant changes to its certification structure. Traditionally, the CCNP certification was solely for those who had passed the CCNA and a set of routing and switching exams.

So you would be required to keep a wide eye while preparing for a Cisco certification.

By now you might have known that CCNP requires re-certification every three years. If one fails to pass through the next intermediate level before these 3 years, they lose their certification status and have to start the race from the beginning. Because of this condition, professionals update them with current trends and therefore they would be gaining higher salaries.

Here I would like to mention the various certifications from entry-level to architect level which would be provided by Cisco.

CCENT - Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician

CCNA - Cisco Certified Network Associate

CCNP - Cisco Certified Network Professional

CCIE - Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert

CCA - Cisco Certified Architect

Redhat Certifications

Though the share of Linux distributions is considered to be the less compared to Windows in operating systems area, people are more drifted to this field because of many factors like it would be giving freedom, we can work on open source stuff. But there are limitations to this also. Moreover, there is less support when we come up with some show stoppers. Because of this reason, the number of people who take RHCE is always less compared to people who take Microsoft certified programs.

But this turned out to be a positive factor to those who take Redhat certifications because of their specialized knowledge in that particular area.

When it comes to salary, the demand for Cisco certified professionals is considered to be a bit more due to their market share. The average salary for the topmost level is about $90000. Whereas, even though there is less number of Redhat certified professionals, the average salary for the topmost level is $94000.

Hence, both of them hold their own importance in their own particular aspects. Also, you should check out the courses which are offered at the SPOTO Club, to ensure your success for the same.
