There would be no definite period in which CISCO would be updating the current version of CCNA. However, CISCO would keep adding new material whenever required, which would depend on the industry’s requirements. A fair approximation of the period in which CCNA would be getting updated would be after every three years.
As per my experience CCNA v1, v2, and currently v3, I have realized that it’s happened within 15 years. It wouldn’t don’t have any specific timeline or pattern. Cisco would be updating their education material based on what they wish to sell and base on-trend and technologies.
The time between versions 1 and 2 was quite short, about 4 to 5 years, while the period between ver2 to ver3 was quite long. It took up to 7 to 8 years with a couple of minor upgrades. However, the baseline would be remaining the same since CCNA is considered to be fundamental to networking. Before we move further, you should opt for the training courses offered at the SPOTO Club if you wish to obtain the CCNA certification in a single attempt.

Consolidating the CCNA Model
There might be about 10 to 11 CCNA Domains previously, such as CCNA Routing and Switching, CCNA Data Center, CCNA Security, CCNA Collaboration, and much more. Cisco would have researched the target and the value of the CCNA program. Post research, they would conclude that the main objective of CCNA Certification would be to focus on candidates who would be beginning their careers in networking. They might be fresh graduates or software developers or coming from a new industry or IT Industry, or they could also be from a non-IT background such as finance, marketing, or sales.
CCNA would be focusing on junior level personnel who would be beginning his networking career or anywhere between 0 to 2 years into this job role. The primary aim would be to give these candidates fundamental knowledge about all the perceptions as well as components of networking. Until now, Cisco would have observed a gap in the above knowledge due to so many different domains, but now they would have a concise model that would bridge this gap. Hence February 2020 onwards, there would be only one brief examination, thus retiring all the CCNA domains, which would be focusing on the fundamentals of networking.
CCNA 200-301 Focused Areas
· Automation – Importance, basics, and application
· IP Connectivity – Routing and Switching Basics
· IP Fundamentals – Fundamentals of networking
· Network Access – How to connect to a network
· Security – Foundational knowledge
These would be the core elements that would constitute the CCNA Examination. Regardless of the domain, you would be an expert in the foundational knowledge, which would be stated above, especially security and automation, as they would be forming an essential section of every technology. For more details regarding the same, you should opt for the training courses which would be offered at the SPOTO Club.
