If you are sitting the Genesys Cloud: Professional Certification (GC-GCP) from your desk at home, most of the stress comes from the first fifteen minutes, not the exam itself. A name that does not match your ID, a second monitor you forgot about, or a work laptop that blocks the secure browser can end a session before you see question one. This guide walks you through check-in on the platform Genesys actually uses, so you can fix problems the night before instead of during the appointment.

How This Exam Is Delivered

Genesys exams are scheduled through Webassessor, the candidate portal run by Kryterion. Genesys states that you can take the exam online with a live proctor or at a Kryterion test center, and it recommends the online option. Genesys also states that exams are currently offered in English.

The duration, question count and passing score are not stated on the official Genesys page. They appear consistently on exam-prep sites, but a stable number on a prep site is not the same as a number from Genesys. Read them off your Webassessor registration screen before you plan your pacing.

Regional availability is the other gap. Kryterion operates globally and lists a sanctioned-countries policy on its site, but the Genesys page doesn’t list which countries can use online proctoring. If you are outside the US and Europe, open Webassessor, pick the online option for your country, and see whether it lets you book a slot (confirm on the official page).

Pre-Exam Preparation

Hardware and Network Requirements

  • Operating system: Windows 10 (build 19045 or newer) or Windows 11, or macOS 12 or newer. Windows S mode is not compatible with the secure browser.
  • Browser: the latest Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for the Webassessor side. The exam itself runs inside Respondus LockDown Browser, which you install from your Webassessor account.
  • Computer: use a personal machine. Installing the secure browser can need administrator rights, which managed work laptops often lack. Kryterion strongly recommends a non-work computer.
  • Virtual machines: prohibited. That covers VMware, VirtualBox and Boot Camp.
  • Chromebooks: supported only for programs that explicitly allow them.
  • Screen: one monitor only. The secure browser detects a second monitor and disables it, but you should still unplug it.
  • Webcam and microphone: 720p at 30 fps for the camera, plus a working microphone. An external webcam must be a USB model, and auto zoom and auto focus should be off.
  • Keyboard: an English (QWERTY) layout.
  • Disk space and resolution: at least 50 MB free and 1024 x 768 or higher for Kryterion’s own requirements. Respondus asks for more free space, so keep a few hundred MB spare.
  • Internet: Kryterion’s published minimum is 1 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up, with download at least equal to upload. Use a wired or strong Wi-Fi connection, not cellular data.
  • Firewall and security software: Genesys says any firewall that blocks Webassessor or Kryterion should be disabled before the exam. Kryterion also lists antivirus, pop-up blockers, remote-access tools and screen-sharing software as common causes of failure.
  • VPN and corporate networks: No explicit ruling, but both routinely cause failures. Turn the VPN off and test from your home network (confirm on the official page).
  • Headphones: not allowed in the testing area. Kryterion’s alert text names headphones among the items a proctor will ask you to remove.

Exam Tip: Run Kryterion’s free “Computer-readiness exam check” in your Webassessor account at least two days before the exam. It is the only way to find out that your laptop, browser or security software will not cooperate while you still have time to borrow another machine.

ID Requirements

For online exams, Kryterion’s guidance says you need one valid government-issued photo ID. It has to be the original document (no scans or phone photos), unexpired, readable, and matched to the name on your registration. Passports, driver’s licenses, national or state ID cards, military IDs and digital IDs are listed as acceptable. Test centers are different: Genesys tells candidates to bring two forms of photo ID, plus a printout of the Genesys confirmation email with your voucher code and the Kryterion email with your proctor authorization code.

Name matching is where candidates get stuck. The name in your Webassessor profile has to match your ID exactly. Open your profile now and compare it with the document, character by character, including middle names, hyphens and accents. If your name recently changed, Kryterion says to bring official documentation such as a marriage certificate or court order.

Two Genesys-specific account rules matter too. Since March 21, 2024, subscription holders must use the email address linked to their Education subscription when taking exams in Webassessor. Partners should use their company-domain email so certifications sync to the partner portal.

For a global audience there is no single “right” ID, because Genesys does not publish a country-by-country list. If you only have a national ID card, confirm in advance that it is a government-issued photo ID with legible text on the front and back, and that your Webassessor name follows its spelling (confirm on the official page).

Exam Tip: Do not abbreviate or localize your name in Webassessor. If your ID reads “Maria Fernanda Lopez Garcia” and your profile says “Maria Lopez”, you are asking for a failed check-in. Fix the profile before you book.

Testing Environment

  • Pick a room that is well lit, quiet and private. Nobody else may be in the room or talk to you during the session.
  • Clear the desk down to one computer, one monitor, one keyboard and one mouse.
  • Take sticky notes, posters and papers off the walls in view of the camera.
  • Remove lanyards, badges, hats, watches and jewelry. Kryterion lists all of these as items you should not wear.
  • Keep your phone out of reach, unless you are told to use it as a second camera.
  • If you have a CCTV or security camera in the room, make sure it is out of view and cannot see your screen.
  • Switch off notifications and close every other application.
  • If you want a drink, plan on plain water in a clear container only. Kryterion’s stricter security profile allows nothing else(confirm on the official page).

Step-by-Step Check-in Walkthrough

The exact screens depend on how Genesys has configured the exam in Webassessor, including whether biometrics, an AI pre-check or a second camera are switched on. The sequence below is the typical Kryterion flow. Treat the order as indicative (confirm on the official page).

  1. Log in to Webassessor and find your exam. Use the account you registered with. Your exam sits under your scheduled assessments. Sticking point: a second Webassessor account created with a different email, so your booking appears to be missing. Log out and try the email tied to your Genesys voucher or subscription.
  2. Click Launch when the button appears. It shows up 10 minutes before your start time and remains available for 20 minutes after it. Do not open the secure browser directly from your desktop; the session has to start from Webassessor. Sticking point: no Launch button at all. Refresh the page, confirm your time zone (Webassessor takes it from your profile city and country), and contact Kryterion chat if it still does not appear.
  3. Pass biometric authentication, if enabled. Some sponsors ask you to repeat a typing sample and take a face photo that is compared with your enrollment profile. Sticking point: typing your name very differently from enrollment. Type at your normal speed on the same keyboard you enrolled with.
  4. Complete the system check. Webassessor verifies your camera, microphone and connection. Select the correct camera from the list and position it so your face is fully visible. Sticking point: the wrong camera selected, or a USB webcam unplugged by accident. Never disconnect an external webcam once you have started; if the feed is lost and cannot be restored, you have to exit and relaunch.
  5. Do the pre-check, if enabled. This usually means an ID confirmation and a 360-degree room scan. With the AI version you scan a QR code with your phone, take a selfie, and photograph the front and back of your ID, then capture your desk and room. Kryterion’s candidate guide says to allow roughly 5 to 10 minutes (confirm on the official page). Sticking point: glare on the ID. Tilt the card away from overhead lights and keep it flat and steady. Kryterion states that photos captured during the AI pre-check are not saved.
  6. Set up the second camera, if required. Kryterion’s dual camera option uses your phone: scan the on-screen QR code, allow camera and microphone access, and place the phone behind you so the proctor can see your keyboard, mouse and upper body. Kryterion recommends Chrome and says to switch on Do Not Disturb so a call cannot drop the feed. Sticking point: a phone that slides or locks. Prop it on a stand and turn off auto-lock for the duration. Whether Genesys requires this is unclear, since community reports differ (confirm on the official page).
  7. Wait for the all-clear and start. If something fails, the screen tells you what to fix, or a Kryterion support advocate talks to you by text chat. Once approved, the exam begins. Sticking point: panicking at an instruction. Follow it, because the advocate is there to get you into the exam, not to fail you.

Exam Tip: The in-exam Support button, top right of the screen, pauses the exam content and the timer while you talk to a live agent. Use it the moment something technical goes wrong rather than trying to fix it silently while the clock runs.

What the Proctor Looks for During the Room Scan

The scan exists to confirm that no unauthorized aids, devices or people are in your space. Kryterion’s description of the AI check says you may be asked to show these areas:

  • The whole desk surface, plus under and around the desk
  • Walls, floor and corners of the room
  • Any additional monitors, which must be unplugged or turned away
  • Anything within reach that could hold exam help: notes, books, phones, tablets and writing tools

Proctors also check eyewear for smart glasses or recording technology, and they look for accessories such as watches or jewelry. If they spot an unauthorized item, Kryterion’s procedure is to have it moved at least one foot away from the front, left or right of your computer. A cluttered area is looked at but is not cleared for you unless the exam sponsor requires it.

Move slowly. Kryterion’s pre-check advice is not to rush the pan and not to stand in front of the camera. Show every wall and the full desk surface, and hold the camera still long enough for it to focus.

Rules During the Exam

Kryterion records video and audio of every online session and reviews them afterward. Proctors communicate with you through on-screen alerts. The important detail is that each exam sponsor chooses which alerts trigger a suspension and how many alerts it takes. So the line between a warning and a termination is set by Genesys, and I did not find Genesys’s settings published (confirm on the official page). The tiers below reflect Kryterion’s own alert types and misconduct examples.

Tier 1: Behaviors That Typically Get an Alert

These generate an on-screen message telling you to correct the problem. Repeating them can lead to suspension, depending on the sponsor’s settings.

  • Leaving the testing area, or leaning out of camera view
  • Having unapproved materials in the testing area
  • Items in view that should be removed, such as hats, headphones, jewelry, watches, phones and tablets
  • A camera that is out of position, out of focus, or a room that is too dark or too bright
  • Reading exam content aloud, talking about the exam, or talking to another person
  • Prolonged staring away from the screen, for example at an item out of view

Tier 2: Behaviors That Can End the Session

Kryterion lists the following as candidate misconduct, and it states that failing to follow requirements or proctor instructions can lead to suspension and forfeiture of your exam fee.

  • Photographing, recording or writing down exam questions
  • Seat swapping or any form of proxy testing
  • Logging in with someone else’s credentials or profile
  • Receiving help of any kind from another person
  • Using prohibited aids or unauthorized personal devices
  • Tampering with the computer or using it for anything other than the exam
  • Leaving the test area without approval
  • Threatening or lewd conduct

Kryterion also states that exam security can be reviewed after the exam is submitted. If you receive a suspension notice, contact Genesys Education support and ask for the exact policy that applies (confirm on the official page).

Rules on Breaks, Scratch Paper and Drinks

Breaks. Kryterion’s standard is that breaks are not allowed unless the test sponsor authorizes them, and leaving the area for any reason can end the session.

Scratch paper and pen. Test aids are set per exam and appear as small icons on the right side of your exam screen. Kryterion’s own advice is to recommend against physical scratch paper for online exams, because proctors lose sight of you after you submit and cannot control what is written. Do not bring paper unless your Webassessor exam details or the on-screen icons say it is allowed. A calculator or digital whiteboard is the same story: Genesys has not told us either way (confirm on the official page).

Drinks and food. No food. If drinks are allowed at all, expect plain water in a clear container, which is Kryterion’s stricter rule. Drink before you start.

Exam Tip: Glance at the right side of the exam screen once the test begins. If there is no paper, calculator or book icon, you have no approved aids. Putting a notepad on the desk “just in case” is exactly how candidates earn an Unauthorized Test Aid alert.

Online suits you if you have a personal computer you can set up, a quiet private room, and a stable connection, and you want flexible timing. A test center suits you if you only have a locked-down work laptop, share a home with people you cannot keep out of the room, have unreliable internet, or simply do not want a room scan. For the test center path, plan your ID and email printouts the same way you would plan a flight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most Asked Questions

What happens if my internet drops mid-exam?

If an interruption is outside your control, Kryterion’s procedure is for the proctor to pause the session until it is resolved and then let you continue. If it cannot be resolved, the session is discontinued and you may get reschedule help, depending on the sponsor’s rules. Lost video is treated as an escalation, and if an external webcam feed cannot be restored you have to exit and relaunch. Whether Genesys offers a free reschedule is not stated publicly (confirm on the official page).

Can I use my laptop’s built-in webcam?

Kryterion allows an internal camera unless the sponsor requires an external or dual camera. Genesys has not published which applies to GC-GCP, and community posts conflict: some candidates used only their laptop camera, others were asked for a second camera. Have a phone ready and a stand to hold it (confirm on the official page).

What if check-in times out or I miss the launch window?

The Launch button is available from 10 minutes before to 20 minutes after your appointment. If it expires, contact Kryterion support right away through live chat, which runs around the clock. What happens to your voucher and appointment after a missed window is not clearly published (confirm on the official page).

Can I take the exam on my work laptop?

You can try, but Kryterion strongly advises against it. The secure browser can need administrator rights, and corporate firewalls, VPNs and monitoring software often conflict with it. Use a personal computer if you can.

Do I need a second ID for the online exam?

Kryterion’s online guidance lists only one required item, a valid government-issued photo ID. Test center candidates are told to bring two forms of photo ID. Genesys has not published a different online rule, but check your confirmation email for anything specific (confirm on the official page).

What if my name does not match my ID?

Fix it before exam day by editing your Webassessor profile. If your legal name changed, bring the official change documentation, as Kryterion advises. If you only notice during check-in, contact Kryterion support through chat rather than guessing at the proctor.

Can I retake the exam if I fail?

Genesys states there is no waiting period before a retake, but every voucher can be used only once, so you need to buy a new one. If a session is suspended for a violation, that is a separate matter and depends on the decision made on the session.
