On 15 July 2026 the FCF/FCA/FCP/FCSS/FCX levels were folded back into an eight-level NSE structure. On 21 September 2026 Fortinet pulled every NSE 7 exam from online delivery. If you’re booking your first online proctored Fortinet exam, start by checking that your exam can still be taken at home. Then get through the Pearson VUE OnVUE check-in without losing your fee. This guide covers both, using Fortinet Training Institute policy articles and Pearson VUE’s Fortinet pages. Exams Are Delivered

Fortinet’s proctored written exams (NSE 4 through NSE 7) are delivered by Pearson VUE, either at a Pearson VUE test center or online through OnVUE. OnVUE is Pearson’s remote proctoring service: you install an app, check in with your phone and webcam, and a live proctor watches through your camera for the whole session. The NSE 8 practical exams run separately and aren’t covered here.

Which exams you can take online depends on the level:

NSE 4, NSE 5 and NSE 6: available both online (OnVUE) and at Pearson VUE test centers.

NSE 7 (all tracks): test center only since 21 September 2026. Fortinet’s notice names the Public Cloud Security 7.6.4 Architect, SASE 26 Architect, Secure Networking 7.6 Architect and Security Operations 7.6 Architect exams. Pearson VUE contacts candidates who had NSE 7 OnVUE bookings on or after that date about rescheduling.

Regional restrictions. Fortinet’s help desk lists five countries where online proctoring isn’t offered: China, Iraq, North Korea, Sudan and Syria. That article was last updated in February 2022 (confirm on the official page). Separately, Pearson VUE won’t accept an ID issued by Belarus, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria or restricted regions of Ukraine for OnVUE exams. Both are problems: corporate networks are banned outright, and work machines often run VPN clients, endpoint agents and proxy settings that break OnVUE. Use a personal computer on home broadband, and run the System Test on that exact setup a few days before.

ID Requirements

Fortinet doesn’t publish its own ID rules for exam day; the Pearson VUE OnVUE rules apply. Paper IDs are accepted only in Algeria, Brazil, Cameroon and the Dominican Republic. Pearson’s page doesn’t mention a secondary ID requirement for OnVUE.

Name matching. Your booking name comes from your Pearson VUE profile, which is linked to your Fortinet Training Institute account. Before you book, open your Pearson VUE profile and compare it with your ID character by character. Watch for:

Given name and family name in the wrong fields (a frequent problem for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Hungarian names)

A nickname or English name in the profile that isn’t on your ID

A missing middle name or second surname that appears on the ID

Accents or special characters dropped in one place but not the other (confirm how Pearson treats these on the official page)

If something doesn’t match, contact Pearson VUE customer service to correct the profile before exam day. Don’t count on a greeter overlooking it.

Which ID to use worldwide. A passport is the most reliable choice. It’s government-issued, carries a photo, and shows your name in Latin script, which is what the greeter compares against your booking. Your national ID card is on the accepted list, so use it if it’s plastic, current and matches your booking name exactly. Pick a passport if your national ID shows your name only in a non-Latin script, or if it’s a paper document outside the four countries where paper is allowed.

Exam Tip: Check that your ID isn’t expired on exam day, not just today. Pearson’s Fortinet page says rule violations lead to exam revocation and fee forfeiture. Fortinet’s own Candidate Misconduct policy goes further: Fortinet can rescind scores, revoke certifications you already hold, and suspend you from the program for three to twelve months. The Candidate Agreement also lets Fortinet bar you from future certifications permanently or for a set period.

Neither Fortinet nor Pearson publishes an official warning-versus-termination list for Fortinet exams. The split below is based on how OnVUE proctors generally handle behavior. Treat Tier 1 as “you might get one warning,” not as permission.

Tier 1: Usually a warning first

Looking away from the screen or out of frame repeatedly

Reading questions under your breath or moving your lips

Hands near your face or covering your mouth

Background noise, or someone audible outside the room

Briefly moving partly out of the webcam view

Whether these get a warning or end the exam is the proctor’s call (confirm on the official page).

Tier 2: Exam ended, result revoked, possible program sanctions

Another person entering the room or seeing your screen

Touching your phone without the proctor’s permission

Using notes, books, unauthorized test aids or outside help

Recording, photographing, screen-sharing or copying exam content

Leaving the webcam view without an approved break

Speaking or reading aloud when not instructed to

Tampering with the testing software or environment

Misrepresenting your identity or having someone else test for you

Disclosing or discussing exam content afterward, including in forums or study groups

Using prior knowledge of the exam content (for example, from leaked question dumps)

Review after the exam. Fortinet treats results as provisional. It can put a result on hold for review based on statistical analysis, and take action at any point during your certification’s validity period. A result that fails review is voided with no score report and no compensation.

Appeals. If Fortinet finds misconduct, it notifies you of its findings and gives you a chance to respond. You can appeal by submitting a written statement within 15 days of being notified, and Fortinet sends its final decision in writing. The policy doesn’t say where to send the appeal. Contact the Fortinet Training Institute help desk and keep a copy of everything you submit (confirm on the official page).

Breaks, Scratch Paper and Drinks

Breaks. Fortinet’s policy articles don’t mention breaks. Pearson says you may leave the webcam view only during an approved break, and that not all exams offer them. Assume your Fortinet exam has no scheduled break, and use the bathroom before you start check-in (confirm on the official page).

Scratch paper and whiteboards. No physical paper, pens or whiteboards. Pearson’s Fortinet OnVUE page lists a digital whiteboard inside the exam as the pre-approved allowance, so do subnet math and routing calculations there. Practice using an on-screen whiteboard with Pearson’s demo test before exam day.

Drinks. One beverage in an unmarked container is allowed on the desk. Food, gum and smoking products aren’t.

Proctor contact. Use the in-exam chat to reach the proctor. If you haven’t heard from them, contact Pearson VUE customer service.

Can I keep water on my desk?

Yes.
