class="ez-toc-section-end">

Cisco delivers 200-301 only through Pearson VUE, and you choose between a Pearson VUE test center and OnVUE, Pearson’s online proctored service, when you book. Both options cost the same: US$300, or Cisco Learning Credits. You schedule, reschedule and cancel through Cisco’s certification portal (CertMetrics), which hands you off to Pearson VUE.

The exam itself is 120 minutes and is offered in English and Japanese. Cisco does not publish the number of questions or the passing score; any figure you see online (“100–120 questions”, “825/1000”) is unofficial. Expect the appointment to run longer than 120 minutes, because Cisco appointments typically include extra time for the NDA, a tutorial and a survey.

Where online testing is not available. Online proctoring is offered in most countries, with these limits:

Cisco does not test anyone residing in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Belarus or Russia, online or in person.

Pearson VUE also rejects IDs issued by those OnVUE-restricted countries.

Older Cisco guidance listed mainland China as an online-proctoring exception. Confirm on the official page whether that still applies before you book.

Greeters and proctors speak English only, even if you take the exam in Japanese.

If online isn’t available where you live, book a test center instead.

Pre-exam preparation

Most failed online sessions die at check-in, not on the questions. If your setup or ID fails, you can’t test and you lose the fee.

Hardware and network

Operating system: Windows 10 or macOS 14 or later. If a touchscreen or extra screen can’t be removed, disconnect it and cover it.

Internet: at least 6 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up, stable. Use a wired connection if you can (Cisco’s older FAQ recommends it).

Banned networks: VPNs, corporate networks, and public or shared networks. Cisco’s older FAQ also bans tethering to a mobile hotspot; confirm on the official page.

Use a personal computer. Work laptops often block OnVUE through security software or admin restrictions.

Plug in the power. A dead battery mid-exam is your problem.

Run the System Test on the same computer, network and room you’ll use on exam day, and restart the machine before you check in.

Exam Tip: Passing the System Test on your office Wi-Fi tells you nothing about your home network. The name must exactly match the name on your exam booking. Accepted for OnVUE include:

International passport

Plastic driver’s license

National, state, provincial or EU ID card

Green card or permanent resident/visa card

Approved Aadhaar card (India)

Non-U.S. military ID

Rejected: expired, digital, photocopied, damaged or privately issued IDs; birth certificates; U.S. military CAC and other secure-access IDs; and IDs from OnVUE-restricted countries. Paper IDs are accepted only in Algeria, Brazil, Cameroon and the Dominican Republic.

Which ID to use globally: a passport is the safest choice anywhere, because its name is in Latin characters and proctors recognize the format. A national ID card works too, but if your name on it is not in Latin script, check that it will match your English-language Cisco profile. Cisco’s older online FAQ also required the ID to carry your signature; Pearson’s current Cisco page doesn’t mention this. Confirm on the official page.

To avoid a name mismatch:

Open your CertMetrics/Pearson profile and your confirmation email.

Compare first and last name, letter by letter, with your ID. Watch for missing middle names, swapped name order, hyphens and accents.

Fix differences in your profile (or through Cisco support) days before the exam, not on the day.

Exam Tip: A renewal receipt or name-change document does not rescue an expired ID or a mismatched name. Cisco explicitly refuses both for online exams.

Candidates aged 13–17 can test with guardian consent. Do this the night before by running the System Test.

Pass the technology check. OnVUE tests your camera, microphone, speaker and connection.

Sticking point: camera or mic access denied on macOS. Tilt the card slightly away from a window or lamp.

Photograph your testing space. OnVUE asks for photos of your workspace from several angles (typically four sides; confirm on the official page). Pearson describes this as a 360° room scan.

Sticking point: OnVUE may offer to take these photos with your phone via a text link or QR code. That’s allowed during check-in only. When you finish, put the phone out of arm’s reach but where you can get it if the proctor calls.

Wait in the queue. You are connected to the next available greeter or proctor. Cisco has warned that waits can stretch to 30 minutes at busy times. Don’t close OnVUE.

Live verification with the proctor. The proctor reviews your photos and may ask you to show the room, desk surface, under the desk, your ears and wrists, or your ID again via webcam.

Accept the NDA and start. You must accept the Cisco Certification and Confidentiality Agreement; declining ends the exam with no refund. The 120-minute timer starts after the tutorial and NDA.

Exam Tip: “Check-in times out” is almost always a candidate who started at T-5 minutes. If the space fails the scan, you don’t test.

Desk surface: only the computer and your drink. A stray sticky note or pen is enough to stop you.

Within arm’s reach: shelves, side tables and the floor around your chair. Wipe whiteboards; take down cheat-sheet-looking notes.

Other screens: extra monitors, laptops and TVs should be unplugged and off. A dark monitor that is still connected can be flagged.

Under the desk: have nothing stored there.

You: no watch, no earbuds, no hat. The proctor may ask you to show your ears or wrists.

The doorway: closed, with no one passing behind you.

If the proctor asks you to move something, do it on camera and stay calm. Neither Cisco nor Pearson publishes a formal list of what earns a warning versus termination, so the split below reflects how proctors typically act. Treat Tier 1 as “may be warned first”, not “always warned” (confirm on the official page).

Tier 1: likely a chat warning

Looking away from the screen repeatedly or for long stretches

Your face drifting partly out of the webcam frame

Reading questions aloud or mumbling to yourself

Covering your mouth or face with your hands

Background noise, such as a voice in another room

When the proctor messages you, respond in the chat and correct the behavior. Cisco is also told, with the recording. Beyond that, Cisco can invalidate the score (even after a pass), decertify you, and impose a ban up to a lifetime ban on all future exams, with nullification of all previous certifications.

Appeals: if you believe you were wrongly accused, a case is opened and Pearson VUE and Cisco’s security team review the recording before a final decision. Pearson says most cases take 3–5 business days; Cisco’s FAQ allows up to five business days for escalations. There is no published formal appeal procedure beyond this review (confirm on the official page).

Breaks, scratch paper and drinks

This is where Cisco’s rules are stricter than OnVUE’s general rules, and Cisco’s win.

Breaks: none. Pearson’s general OnVUE rules allow breaks on some exams. Use the bathroom right before check-in.

Scratch paper: not allowed. No paper, pens, markers, or erasable boards on the desk.

Digital whiteboard: allowed. OnVUE has a built-in whiteboard for working through subnetting and similar calculations. Proctors can’t pause or extend the exam or fix your network. If you can’t get back in, contact Pearson VUE customer service and open a case. Whether you get a free retake depends on the case outcome (confirm on the official page).

Can I use my laptop’s built-in webcam? Yes. Built-in or external both work. If you use an external webcam, you must still be able to move it, or the laptop, for the room scan.

What if check-in times out or the Begin Exam button disappears? You’re outside the window. Being more than 15 minutes late to your appointment means you can’t test and likely won’t be refunded. Contact Pearson VUE immediately, but plan as though the fee is gone.

I’ve been waiting for a proctor for 20 minutes. Should I restart? No. Cisco has warned that queue waits can reach 30 minutes. Closing OnVUE can drop you out of the queue.

Can I use my work laptop? Only if it passes the System Test on a non-corporate network with no VPN. Admin restrictions and security agents often block OnVUE, so a personal computer is the safer bet.

My ID shows my full middle name but my profile doesn’t. Is that a problem? It can be. Cisco and Pearson require the names to match exactly. Update your profile, or contact Cisco support, well before exam day.

Can I wear glasses? Generally yes; the proctor may ask to inspect them on camera. Smart glasses are prohibited.

Can I reschedule if my setup fails the System Test? Yes. Cisco’s online policy lets you reschedule or cancel up until your scheduled start time. After that, or if you no-show, you forfeit the fee. Confirm the current deadline in your confirmation email.

References

Cisco: 200-301 CCNA exam page (duration, languages, price)

Cisco: Exam, Testing, and Certification Policies (code of conduct, bans, embargoed countries, retakes)

Cisco: Online Testing FAQs (PDF) (breaks, late arrival, drinks, appeals; dated 2020)

Cisco Certification and Confidentiality Agreement (PDF)

Pearson VUE: Online testing for Cisco Systems (OnVUE) (technology, space, ID, rules, whiteboard)

Pearson VUE: OnVUE System Test for Cisco

Pearson VUE: OnVUE digital whiteboard

Pearson VUE: Online testing with OnVUE

Pearson VUE: Exam resources and FAQs

Please follow and like us:

      <a target='_blank' href='https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?text=CCNA+200-301+Online+Exam+Check-in+Guide+%282026%29+https://cciedump.spoto.net/blog/ccna-200-301-online-exam-check-in-guide-2026_24022.html'style='display:inline-block' >

Table of Contents How CCNA 200-301 is deliveredPre-exam preparationHardware and networkID: name matching is where people get caughtTesting environmentStep-by-step check-in walkthroughWhat the proctor looks for during the room scanRules during the examTier 1: likely a chat warningTier 2: immediate termination, invalidation or worseBreaks, scratch paper and drinksOnline proctored vs. test centerExam day checklistThe night before60… » read more

[1282

CCNA 200-301 Online Exam Check-in Guide (2026) - SPOTO Official Blog

<meta name="description" content="First CCNA 200-301 online exam?
